About A New Leash on Life - Dog Training

Hi, I'm Keryn, Professional Dog Trainer. Almost twenty years ago I wandered into a Sunday morning dog training class (at the time I was an average-joe, non-trainer) and I went along with my Jekyll & Hyde dog, my Cocker Spaniel Chilli as I was desperate for help with a severe resource guarding issue. Having been bitten a number of times and seeing the behaviour only increasing I needed help!

And found it.

Whilst he was never perfect, we grew together in our relationship to a point of balanced love and respect.

I now specialise in relationship repair.

Message me now if you and your dog need a relationship repair?

Why my dog training business is different to some others!

Firstly, try to make dog owners feel heard and understood before I even work with them. I don't do the "online booking" scenario, I speak with my clients in depth before I work with them so they feel like they are choosing someone they already know a bit and already understands them.

I use a dog training method that isn't mainstream and even flies in the face of the mainstream in some areas. I'm not the only one using it but we are not in a majority. I'm results driven. My success only comes with your success, so we do this together.

I take my demo dog into client homes to demonstrate with (except for online programs of course) so the client can SEE the outcome before they even try the method. If my own dog can't do it why would you hire me, but if mine can do it then perhaps yours can too! Online students can see it in front of them via their screen

I space out my programs over a longer than usual length of time so that each client has plenty of time to practice with their dog, and that we are more likely to end up with a longer-lasting result - not just a quick change that reverts a couple of weeks later.

I address the client's mindset as fundamental to fixing the dog's issues, as I believe without (sometimes serious) mindset changes on the part of the human nothing is likely to change long-term with the dog.

So am I the right trainer to help you and your dog?

Have you introduced a new pup into your home and want to train them before behavioural problems come creeping in? Have you adopted a dog who has come with his or her own set of issues?
Or do you have an existing dog that has issues, minor or major?

Most issues can be improved or sorted out, and it may not be as hard as you think. I’d love to have the opportunity to be a part of your journey. So how should we go about this?

I always suggest that you look at this as a three-part decision.

Firstly, find out about the training methodology and make sure that you BELIEVE, or you will not follow through. Are you looking for food rewards vs no food reliance? Or are you looking for clicker vs check chain training? I use a reward-based training method but I don't use food rewards. I will teach you to say no, and mean it, but without hitting or hurting.

Next, once you have an idea what methodology you want to use to train your dog or puppy, then choose via what means will you receive the information you need to train them, classes, private lessons, online programs, board & train, short intensive program, a combination of any or all of the above. I can give you the exact same information if I’m standing in front of you in your home, standing in front of you via a screen or if I was teaching you in a group. How you implement it is the key. These are just logistics. Options that I offer you include a fully in-home program (location dependent), a fully online program (anywhere, anytime) or a combination program.

Part three, The Details – look for the nearest, most conveniently timed, best cost or nicest person out of all that offers the method & means that you want. Too many people just choose the nearest classes or the cheapest trainer, and invariably things don’t work out well. You're better off choosing an online program using a method that you can really sink your teeth into than something close to home that just isn't your cup of tea.

Contact me now if you'd like to chat about how this might apply to your situation.

A New Leash on Life is also about offering these same training opportunities to dogs that do not have a family – and then let's sort that issue out as well. Our foster dogs are taught obedience and manners, whilst living in my own home, in order to help them be the best family members that they can possibly be. Behavioural modification or behavioural management strategies are put in place so that the potential new family has the best possible chance for success.

So, let's talk about what you want to achieve. Imagine a family member who can be included when you have a barbecue without harassing the guests. Imagine a calm weekend walk or a family holiday? Imagine your home and garden not chewed up and the neighbours complimenting you on your dog's behaviour when you are out!

Let's do it now!
