Discharge - there, I said it! Most women with a uterus have some level of discharge. It's a fact of life. 

But did you know discharge performs a beneficial 'housekeeping' task for your body? Discharge carries away dead skin cells and bacteria from the reproductive organs (www.healthdirect.gov.au). Also, because fluid is coming out, a barrier against external bacteria is created - a genius function that protects the human life that might be living in your womb. 

The fluid is made by the glands inside the vagina and cervix, which is why there is more or less discharge at different stages of life. Discharge can vary in colour, consistency, smell and amount. And it can differ depending on the stage of your cycle… a tricky and unpredictable customer, that's for damn sure. Of course, please get your medical professional's opinion if your discharge has changed, is foul smelling or is an unusual colour for you.

These secretions are PERFECTLY normal but not perfectly practical. 

Some women don't worry too much about it, but there are many for whom it affects their confidence and self-esteem.

I created Luckies as I was sick of throwing out perfectly good undies because the stains didn't make me feel great. When I put this idea out into the world, I found out that women in sharehouses were strategically hanging their intimates so flatmates couldn't see their gussets. I found women with adult children who did all the washing as "they didn't want their boys to have to see that". Um, NO! I found mums who had to be careful about how their undies landed in the hamper - worried that their long-standing partners may find them less than desirable. What rot!

Knickers have a long-standing design problem - nothing that comes out of a vagina is plain-coloured, so why are all gussets plain? 

I've created Luckies to turn shame into confidence.
