 Natalia Basalaeva | Ceramic and glass artist Natalia originally hails from Russia where her passion for the arts saw her completing an Interior Decoration course at the Moscow International Design School. Today, Natalia is based at Tweed Heads, Northern NSW, Australia where she lives with her partner and dog, and it is in this beautiful place that Natalia has further developed both her style and philosophy when it comes to her art. Specialising in glass and ceramic painting, Natalia’s distinctive signature translucency of floral motifs marries in perfect harmony with light and liquid in her ceramic and glass work. Each gossamer petal and leaf she paints encapsulates the fragility of nature’s best work, whilst her penchant for rich colours are highlighted even more so by her techniques of gradient painting and selection of placement to not only decorate but enhance the form of the item that she is using. Geometrical patterns appear frequently in Natalia’s ceramic pieces, with bright and strong colours coming through each time. Bold pairings like orange and turquoise or shades of deep red serve to enhance both the delicate brushwork and deliberate arrangement of each shape and frond. |
